Consultant Radiologist and Trust Lead for Nuclear Medicine
Speaker: British PET/CT Course
University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, based at Bristol Royal Infirmary
Working as a Consultant PET-CT Radiologist for Alliance Medical, based at North Bristol NHS Trust, I have over 13 years of experience as a Consultant Radiologist, and also have experience of working for Queensland X-Ray for three years in Cairns and Brisbane, Australia in that time.
I qualified at Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals, University of London, back in 1997. House jobs were in Maidstone, Kent and Birmingham Heartland’s Hospital, and after that I had a 6 month stint in A&E at City Hospital, Birmingham, followed by a 3 year Medical Rotation at Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield, where I was Junior Doctor’s Mess President.
I started my Specialist Registrar training in Radiology in the North West Deanery in Manchester from 2001-2008. I did my Nuclear Medicine Training from 2004-2008, and finished with an Advanced PET-CT fellowship for 2 months at the World renowned University Hospital, Zurich. My first Consultant post was at North Manchester General Hospital, where I was Trust Lead for Nuclear Medicine, and where I established myself, with a brand new high volume nuclear cardiology service, amongst many other changes, and helped to move the department to a brand new state-of-the art department with two new gamma SPECT-CT cameras.
I have enjoyed teaching medical students, nuclear medicine Radiographers, Foundation Doctors and STs in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine for the last 12-13 years, and currently host a weekly teaching session for STs in Radiology which regularly gets high standard reviews, currently via WebEx in the Covid-19 era. I am also now South Bristol Academy Consultant Radiology Deanery Lecturer for the University of Bristol Medical School.
You would be most pleased to know, however, that I also like to relax and wind-down(!) from the busy work schedule, and enjoy jogging, cycling and swimming mostly on weekends, enjoy taking my young family, including two delightful daughters out on weekend trips and also relish social occasions, both with family and friends. Unsurprisingly, I am the unofficial social secretary (!) in our current department of Radiology, and have organised many meals since arriving in Bristol.
