About The Event

As the demand for Post-Mortem Cross-Sectional Imaging is used in forensic/digital autopsy, this new two-day course will take a closer look at forensic and post-mortem scanning and best practice for Radiologists reporting on virtual autopsy.

Covering postmortem CT (PMCT) and some Fetal MRI (on Day 2), the course will develop interpretation and reporting skills through reviewing a range of Post-mortem Radiology scans, for the investigation of (mainly) non-suspicious death. We'll also feature some Forensic sessions with a case review. In addition, we’ll take a look at more recent PMCT techniques including angiography, and guided-biopsy.

Led by Sarah Fleming, Consultant Radiologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, we’ll review range of cases to support you in increasing your knowledge of PMCT in correlating of the pathological artefacts of death, and the ability to recognise forensically significant PMCT findings. We’ll also look at some of the limitations of PMCT and review how MRI is used effectively to determine cause of death.

With a specialist focus on best practice in Forensic Imaging of Children, we'll also review of Fetal post-mortem imaging, with expert Dr Elspeth Whitby, Fetal MRI Clinic and Senior Lecturer, Radiology at the University of Sheffield Medical School.

As a result of this course, you should feel confident in recognising what is a normal pathological change to feel more confident in investigating further.
